Exploring Alternative Medicine for Cancer

One of the most controversial topics is alternative medicine for cancer. There are many people who are very interested in the use of alternative cancer medicine. In some cases, the treatments of radiology and chemotherapy are too harsh for some patients to handle. Some may decide to seek alternative methods of treating their cancer, however this definitely depends on their individual situation, condition, diagnosis and more. First and foremost, the patient should work with their doctor and oncologist no matter what they decide.

One of the most widely known alternative medicine cancer therapies is Essiac Tea. The tea is the name Caisse spelled backwards, in honor of Rene Caisse, a Canadian nurse who developed an herbal formula for cancer patients. During her life, she never charged for her remedy and never sought to profit from it. The four main ingredients in her formula are native to Ontario and the formula itself is thought to come from the Ojibway Indian tribe of Canada. It is a blend of Slippery Elm Bark, Burdock Root, Indian Rhubarb Root and Sheep Sorrel. Caisse lived to be 90 years old and was renowned for her healing efforts.

Doctors and oncologists warn that during periods of traditional treatment like radiology and chemotherapy, there should be no vitamins, supplements, herbs, antioxidants or anything else of that nature consumed. One reason for this is because they may protect the cancer cells in addition to the normal cells, thus negating the effects of the treatment. However if these treatments are not used or if a patient is in remission and wants to try an alternative treatment it is something they should explore with their medical professionals and a specialist in that area. It is nothing to begin lightly, any kind of cancer treatment should be thoroughly researched.

Alternative medicine for cancer is not widely accepted in the medical world. However alternative medicine cancer treatments may be offered at holistic healing centers or even cancer treatment centers around the world. Whether or not they are an option for you or a loved one depends on individual medical circumstances. One thing is fairly well established, and that is a diet rich in fruits and vegetables certainly can't hurt the cause of cancer prevention. However for those already diagnosed, traditional oncology should be sought first and foremost and all doctor's orders followed.
