These days it is not as difficult to track down alternative medicine doctors as it used to be. In the past few decades it has gone to practically no doctors with any knowledge of alternative medicine to many of them. There should be an alternative medicine doctor in your area, and if there is not then there should be one within reasonable driving distance. An alternative medical professional could be a doctor of naturopathy, or a traditional doctor who has also studied alternative healing.

Alternative medicine is a huge term that so many different things fall under. For example, it includes acupuncture, massage, chiropractic care, aromatherapy, acupressure, hypnotherapy and a variety of other areas. In alternative medicine you may be directed to eat a certain type of diet or take a certain type of herbal supplement to deal with your malady. For example, menopausal women may find relief from herbal blends containing ingredients like black cohosh and evening primrose oil.

Blends of lavender and chamomile are soothing, and some recommend a simple chamomile tea for anxiety relief. Other anxiety relievers often recommended include passionflower, hops and Valerian. For depression there are supplements like St. John's Wort and 5-HTP, a natural amino acid. There are also herbal remedies for joint pain and arthritis inflammation. And you can find supplements for other things, too, like high blood pressure or high blood sugar. For example, cinnamon in supplement form is sometimes taken by those with high blood sugar. Ginkgo biloba is an herb taken for sharpness of mind and memory. As you can see, there are many different herbs for many different conditions.

One thing to keep in mind is just because something is herbal or natural does not make it safe for you. If you have any underlying medical conditions for which you are being treated or you take any kind of prescription or OTC medication, you need to speak to your doctor before trying any kind of natural remedy. Alternative medicine doctors worth your time and money will ask you what you are taking and about your medical history, and it is important to be completely honest with them. Usually during your first consultation with one of these doctors much information will be gathered, you will be able to ask questions and a tentative treatment plan will be created to meet your needs.
